On 30 October 2020, Step Legal Solicitors promoted their current head of residential conveyancing,Anees Khan, to the position of company director.  At the same time, Anees was also appointed as the firm’s compliance officer for finance and administration and given a pivotal role in helping to shape the firm’s future business development strategy.

This is an impressive feat for a young lawyer who only joined Step Legal in April 2020 and who has had to carve out a name for himself against the backdrop of a global pandemic.

While many in his position would have hunkered down and hoped for the best in what has been a very challenging few months, Anees has used the time since the coronavirus took hold to notch up a series of truly remarkable achievements, including:

  • Establishing a brand new residential conveyancing department;
  • Recruiting new conveyancing team members, including property lawyerHannah Killer;
  • Developing a new computerized conveyancing case management system;
  • Implementing quality control processes and procedures, developed in consultation with senior lawyer Anna Rushton;
  • Introducing a mobile identification app, in order to help with ID checks for clients who live overseas or who are unable to get into the office due to Covid-19 restrictions;
  • Getting Step Legal appointed to the conveyancing panels of several well-known high street lenders;
  • Obtaining The Law Society’s Conveyancing Quality Mark;
  • Helping to redesign the Step Legal Solicitors website;
  • Forging links with local businesses, including many of the estate agents in Crewe;
  • Raising brand awareness through proactive networking and marketing initiatives; and
  • Increasing the firm’s social media presence through the posting of regular blogs, success stories and tweets.

As the founder of Step Legal Solicitors, Abid Hussain, notes:

What Anees has managed to achieve in the period since he joined us is nothing short of astonishing and demonstrates not only what a brilliant lawyer he is, but also what a great businessman he is shaping up to be.  He understands that to progress in a law firm it is not enough to just be a good lawyer – you also need to be enterprising, determined and someone who is willing to roll up their sleeves and turn their hand to whatever needs to be done in order to help the business develop and grow and to drive it forward.

Anees has proved himself to be an incredibly talented and valuable asset and I am thrilled to have him join me as part of the Step Legal Solicitors leadership team.

Commenting on his recent promotion, Anees says:

It is wonderful to have my achievements over the past few months formally recognized and to be given the opportunity to continue to shape and direct the future of Step Legal through my appointment as a director.  I am really looking forward to working alongside Abid and to helping him put in motion a series of plans that we hope will enable us to build on our success in 2021 and beyond, including the proposed expansion of our legal team and the range of services that we offer, and the introduction of more technology based solutions to further improve our efficiency and the overall experience of our clients.

Abid and I will also be working hard to keep Step Legal Solicitors open during the ongoing coronavirus crisis and to ensure that our clients and staff remain safe.  We are fortunate to have offices that are large enough to allow for social distancing and an IT system which enables us to seamlessly switch to home working should that become necessary.  We also have a number of local members of staff who can make daily visits to our post box to ensure that clients can continue to drop off any important letters or documents that are required.

It is an exciting, albeit slightly strange time for Step Legal and the addition of Anees to our leadership team only serves to bolster our position and add to our status as one of the fastest growing new start-up law firms in the North West of England.
