We are delighted to announce that Dominic Jones, head of our medical negligence department, has been appointed as a Deputy District Judge for the Midlands region.

Dominic will begin his new role in the new year and will sit on a part-time basis, which will enable him to also continue his work as a specialist medical negligence and complex personal injury lawyer with Step Legal.

As a Deputy District Judge, Dominic will be responsible for managing and passing judgment on a wide variety of civil matters, ranging from boundary disputes, claims for housing disrepair, payment of rent arrears and mortgage repossession, to debt recovery, defaults on consumer credit agreements and, of course, personal injury and medical negligence claims.

The process you need to go through to become a Deputy District Judge is highly competitive and gruelling, and out of the thousands of lawyers who apply nationally for selection to the Judicial Appointments Commission, only around 150 applicants are approved and appointed by the Lord Chief Justice.

Responding to news of his appointment, Abid Hussain, managing director at Step Legal, said:

On behalf of myself and everyone at Step Legal, I would like to express my sincere congratulations to Dominic on his appointment as a Deputy District Judge and to wish him the best of luck in his new role. I have known Dominic for over a decade now and have a huge amount of respect for him. He is one of the most intelligent and talented lawyers I have ever met, and I know from my experience of having worked alongside him that with his eye for detail, keen analytical mind and unparalleled ability to get his head around even the most complex and challenging legal problems, he is going to make a fantastic addition to the judicial office in England and Wales. The fact that he is still only 41 years of age, and therefore relatively young compared to most other Judges, is further testament to how exceptional he is.”

Commenting on his own appointment, Dominic said:

I am delighted and enormously proud to have been appointed as a Deputy District Judge. This is a major milestone in my legal career and is the culmination of years of hard work as a civil litigation lawyer. I would like to thank my family for their support during the long application process, and also my boss, Abid Hussain, whose unwavering belief in me over the years and in this process has been invaluable. I very much look forward to taking on this important role and to assisting members of the public and commercial parties with the resolution of their civil disputes and the enforcement of their civil rights.
